My Current Favourite High-Protein Breakfast

One of the questions I’m asked most often is: “What do you have for breakfast?”

I’m one of those people who will happily eat the same breakfast for two or three months, then suddenly get sick of it and move on to something completely different. At the moment, this high-protein chia pudding is firmly on repeat.

It takes only a couple of minutes to prepare, and you can make it the night before, put it together in the morning or prepare a larger batch for the week. I make mine in a jar, which makes it easy to take to work or eat later in the morning.

Recently, I had to eat breakfast earlier than usual before a radio interview. My nerves got the better of me and I didn’t feel like finishing it, so I simply put the lid back on the jar, returned it to the fridge and finished it later once I felt more settled. It’s a very handy option for mornings when life doesn’t quite go to plan!

High-Protein Chia Pudding

Ingredients

  • 120g unsweetened Greek yoghurt

  • 2–3 tablespoons water

  • Cinnamon, to taste

  • 1to1½ scoops vanilla protein powder

  • 1 scoop collagen powder

  • 2 teaspoons chia seeds

  • 2 teaspoons hemp seeds or hemp hearts (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon psyllium husk (optional)

To serve

My current favourite toppings are:

  • Frozen raspberries, defrosted

  • 1 heaped teaspoon peanut butter

Other options include:

  • Blueberries

  • Sliced banana

  • A small drizzle of sugar-free maple syrup

  • Chopped nuts or seeds

Method

  1. Add the Greek yoghurt, water, cinnamon, protein powder and collagen to a jar or bowl.

  2. Mix well until you have a smooth consistency. Add a little more water if needed.

  3. Stir through the chia seeds, hemp seeds and optional psyllium husk.

  4. Leave the pudding to thicken for at least 20 minutes, or place it in the fridge overnight.

  5. Add your preferred toppings and enjoy.

The exact consistency can vary depending on the protein powder you use, so don’t be afraid to adjust the water until it’s how you like it. If you use psyllium husk, you may need a little extra water because it will thicken the mixture further.

Why I like it

Aside from being quick and easy, this breakfast is filling and provides a good amount of protein (at least 50g) without feeling like you’re eating a huge meal. I often recommend it to clients who want to increase their breakfast protein but don’t want eggs, meat or a smoothie every morning.

A protein-rich breakfast can help:

  • Keep you satisfied until lunchtime

  • Manage hunger and appetite throughout the day

  • Support more consistent energy levels

  • Support a steadier blood-sugar response

  • Maintain muscle and support changes in body composition

If weight loss is your goal, starting the day with enough protein can also make it much easier to manage your appetite and food choices later in the day.

Recipes like this are just one of the practical ideas I work through with my clients. I currently have a couple of openings in my eight-week programme after several clients recently completed successful programmes.
