Are Seed Oils Really the Problem?

If you spend any time online, you’ve probably seen the heated debates around seed oils - canola, sunflower, soybean, grapeseed… the list goes on.

Some say they’re inflammatory and toxic. Others say they’re safe in moderation and part of a balanced diet. There are plenty of studies pointing in all directions, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

But here’s a little perspective:

If I did a full lifestyle audit of your daily habits, I can almost guarantee seed oils wouldn’t even make the top 10 things I’d suggest changing.

Because what I see when I look around is most people skipping over the basics.

Before you stress about seed oils in your hummus or salad dressing, ask yourself:

  • Am I eating enough protein to keep my energy stable and cravings in check? A quick calculation to use is 1.6 x body weight = minimum grams of protein per day.

  • Am I moving my body most days, even just for a walk?

  • Am I getting enough quality sleep?

  • Am I drinking enough water?

  • Are most of my meals made up of real, whole foods?

These are the foundations of good health. They’re not flashy or controversial, but they work.

Yes, there’s a time and place to fine-tune things - and for certain people with specific health concerns, seed oils might be something to look at. But for most of us? Don't sweat the small stuff.

So, my advice? Start with the basics. Do them consistently. Then layer in the rest.

And if you need help figuring out what to focus on first, that’s where I come in.
