How to Reset After a Big Weekend (Without the Guilt or Restriction)

Last weekend I was in Melbourne, one of my favourite cities! The food, the shopping, the buzz… it’s hard not to get caught up in it all. Between meals out, a few drinks, and long days on the go, my usual nutrition habits took a back seat, and that’s completely fine.

Because, health isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being able to enjoy time away but then also having the ability to reset and get back on track when you need to. Here are some of the things I focus on post holiday:

Step 1: Don’t Panic or Punish Yourself

After a weekend of indulgence, it can be tempting to over-correct, skipping meals, cutting carbs, or going all-in on a “clean eating” plan. Your body doesn’t need punishment; it needs balance. Just get back to your normal, nourishing meals and plenty of hydration.

Step 2: Refocus on Protein and Vegetables

I always start the week with meals that are high in protein and packed with colour, think eggs and greens for breakfast, a protein-rich lunch bowl, and a simple meat-and-veg dinner. This helps stabilise blood sugar, curb cravings, and boost energy when you’re feeling a bit sluggish post-weekend.

Step 3: Move Your Body

No need to “burn off” anything, just move because it makes you feel good. A walk outside, some gentle stretching, or a regular strength session helps you reset mentally as much as physically. And whilst I was tempted to miss my 5.30am CrossFit class on Monday, I knew going would help me get back on track.

Step 4: Prioritise Sleep and Hydration

A couple of nights of poor sleep or extra wine can really affect your energy and hunger hormones. Aim for an early night and drink more water than you think you need. I love adding electrolytes to my water, especially when I am feeling a little tired flat and tired. Try MNRL my fave NZ made electrolytes. Use ANGHEALTH10 for 10% off.

Step 5: Reflect, Don’t Regret

If you look back and think, “I really enjoyed that dinner out” or “that dessert was worth it,” great. Enjoying food is part of a healthy life. If something left you feeling not so great, take that as a cue for next time, not as something to feel guilty about.

My takeaway from Melbourne: a few days off routine isn’t what derails your health, it’s the all-or-nothing mindset afterwards that can. So, enjoy the moments, then return to your usual rhythm with confidence and kindness.
